MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Sickle Cell Disease in most commonly found in Schedule Caste, Schedule Communities, and Other Backward Classes in the ten states of India. Estimated SCD patients in India by Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India is around 1.4 million and it is more than half of World's total SCD cases. |
EpidemiologyAny study starts with finding magnitude of the situation. In SCD research epidemiology study is the initiation itself which provide carrier prevalence of the SCD, final confirmed diagnosis of SCD leading to managment / treatment of pathogenesis
|
PathogenesisGetting biomarker for finding newer antisickling agent is the single most challenge for treatment of vaso occlusive crisis in SCD. Study of overall pathogenesis is most important for further research in this field including precipitating infectious agents as well as hemolytic events and vaso occlusive crisis events.

Genetic CounselingMolecular studies such as haplotyping as well as ARMS PCR for prenatal diagnosis is not widely available in India. Our efforts are more focussed on providing genetic counseling after PCR based prenatal diagnosis as well as pre-marriage counseling to sickle cell adult carriers.
